Categories : Saint-Tropez, published on : 2/9/18
There is no off season in Saint-Tropez, especially for sailing enthusiasts! Nautical events follow one another throughout the year, each with their own unique character and atmosphere. The Bastide de Saint-Tropez offers the ideal starting point from which to experience these exciting and entertaining events taking place in the heart of the most charming port on the French Riviera...
The romance of the open sea
Considered by professionals to be excellent training for major transoceanic races such as the Route du Rhum, the Au Large de Saint-Tropez (Saint-Tropez Offshore) regatta will take place from March 3rd. This race is a major one and counts towards the IRC Offshore Mediterranean Championship. Setting off from the Tropezian pontoons, the crews, the doubles and the solos will embark on routes of 900, 600 and 400 miles respectively, which will take them to the Balearic Islands, the Pontine Islands, Sardinia and Cap Corse before crossing the finishing line in Saint-Tropez a few days later. The final itinerary is always unveiled at the last moment as it can change in accordance with the weather conditions.
The excitement of big nautical events
When the sails are unfurled to catch the wind, all the hearts of Saint Tropez begin to beat to the rhythm of the race. In addition to the spectacle that is the start of the regatta, you can follow the progress of all boats live on the website of the Société Nautique de Saint-Tropez or in various establishments throughout the port where passions regarding the event run high. Then welcome the competitors as they cross the finish line, victorious or simply happy to have dared the elements. The Au Large de Saint-Tropez is also an opportunity to prove to Bretons and Vendeans that major sailing races are not their exclusive domain! The Mediterranean holds real challenges for those who want to face them.
The ARMEN mix of festival and regatta!
In Saint-Tropez, nautical events bring together sporting performance and conviviality with the village spirit that this seaside resort has in plenty. The ARMEN Festival, whose 41st edition will be held from March 16th to 25th, combines these qualities in a creative blend that is completely original. The name is a contraction of ART, MER (sea) and NEIGE (snow) and the events challenges crews to participate in sailing and skiing competitions as well as in the creation of an original work of art on a theme chosen by the organising committee. This year, it's about creating an idea box. Diversity of skills and talents in the spotlight!
ARt / MEr / Neige
In addition to evoking the name of the famous lighthouse guarding the Brittany island of Sein, the name of the festival summarises the magnitude of the challenge facing the participants. The crews of more than 70 craft must first shine on a two-day route between Saint-Tropez and Cavalaire. They then compete in skiing events at Isola 2000 before returning to their boats for several races in the Gulf of St. Tropez. For ten days, this world-renowned coastal resort pulses to the rhythm of competitions, exhibitions and excitement.
Meet the crews, share their enthusiasm and joy, admire the boats bobbing on the sea ... then return to the cocoon of the Bastide de Saint-Tropez nestled in the heights of the village. Several times a year, this Provençal port presents nautical events that provide a wealth of excitement for spectators and participants alike.
